A process for producing dense soda ash consists of hot decomposition of the sodium bicarbonate existing in the sodium carbonate slurry at a decomposition temperature of over 135 deg.C, and separation of anhydrous sodium carbonate from the mother liquor. To prevent scaling of the heating walls of the vessel, the hydrostatic head in the vessel should be kept over a minimum value. At the decomposition temp. of 150 deg.C or over the hydrostatic head should preferably be at least 10 metres. |
