Processes are described for the preparation of novel quinolones of the formula 1 and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, wherein the ring A represents an optionally substituted thiophene ring; m is 0 or 1; n is 0, 1 or 2; R is lower alkyl and R1 and R2 is lower alkyl. The fused thieno-ring may carry one or two substituents. Formula I encompasses thieno [3,2-blpyridones, thieno[3,4-blpyridones and thieno[2,3-blpyridones; The novel compounds have antihypertensive activity and are useful as antihypertensive agents. |
