To pay attention only to the column of the relevant voice tone to look for the corresponding character as long as an operator knows the voice tone of a Chinese word to be inputted, by sorting the homophones corresponding to the PIN-IN (phonetic symbol) supplied by a key based on those voice tones of said homophones. When the corresponding one of many homophones is designated, an operator pushes down the key corresponding to the relevant character while looking at the display of the homophones divided into four groups by their voice tones since a part 21a of an initials key group 21 and a part 22a of a finals key group 22 correspond in 1:1 to virtual keys 13 and 12 respectively. If the corresponding character is equal to 'SEI' (KANJI), for example, an operator pays attention to an area 13a from the first without looking at other areas as long as the operator knows that said 'SEI' is the first one of those homophones. Thus the operator can look for his/her desired character 'SEI' to be supplied. Then the operator pushes a key 21b corresponding to the position of a virtual key displayed on a screen. While a key 22b is pushed in the same way when the corresponding character is equal to another 'SEI' (KANJI).
