The said cracking catalyst comprises rare earth-containing silicon-rich HY type molecular sieve as active component on fully or half synthetic carrier. All the rare earth in the active component exists in the manner of oxide. The X-ray diffraction pattern of the said molecular sieve is similar to that of superstable Y type sieve except one dispersive characteristic peak at the position of the 2 theta angle being equal to 27-29 deg. The said catalyst has the feature of resisting the pollution of sodium and heavy metals, and its structural stability and activation stability against water and heat ageing as well as raw-coke selectivity are obviously superior to that of superstable Y type. It is suitable for use of processing heavy oil and can increase the octane value of the products.
