The invention relates to the use of phthalazine derivatives as inhibitors of the enzyme poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase or PARP (EC 2.4.2.30), and to their use as inhibitors of PARP-homologous enzymes. These phthalazine derivatives also exhibit, in particular, a selective inhibition of the PARP-homologous enzymes.
