    A process for preparing D-(-)-3-hydroxy butanoic acid features that a recombinant microbial bacteria (colibacillus is perferable) containing genes phaA or phbA, phaB or phaB, ptb, and buk is cultured by fermentation. Its advantages are simple process, high productivity, and no environmental pollution.
