The object of the invention is to provide an engine cooling device structured so as to lead the cooling water cooled at a radiator to those parts most requiring the cooling before the water is warmed, whereby to heighten the efficiency of the whole engine, to reduce the amount of the fuel consumed, and to prevent the whole cylinder block from being over-cooled by the cooling water which has just been cooled by the radiator. The engine cooling device is structured so that its cooling water passage formed in the cylinder block to cool it, is equipped with a first cooling water passage to cool the block supplied directly with the cooling water from a water pump and a second cooling water passage to cool the block supplied with the cooling water after having passed the cylinder head, and a cylinder head gasket is furnished at least with a first hole having a communication to the first cooling water passage and a second hole having a communication to the second cooling water passage, while a cooling water passage to cool the head is equipped with a first cooling water passage to cool the head having a communication to the first block cooling water passage and a second cooling water passage to cool the head having a communication to the second block cooling water passage.
