An image processing device having a function of detecting wheel-chair riders; which comprises a TV camera installed so as to monitor a hall portion, where riders are waiting, from the vicinity of the elevator door, a face area extracting means, a wheel-chair area estimating means, and a wheel-chair presence/absence judging means; and which operates such that the face area extracting means specifies the face areas of one or a plurality of riders based on an image picked up by the TV camera and detects their positions on the image, the wheel-chair area estimating means estimates, from the face-area positions, areas where wheel chairs are assumed to exist on the image if riders are on wheel chairs, and the wheel chair presence/absence judging means checks the insides of the estimated wheel-chair presence areas and judges the presence/absence of wheel chairs. |
