The present invention discloses soft switching method for CDMA system. The method has soft switching divided into two modes, including one relaxed mode and one strict mode. During the soft switching, RNC selects the soft switching mode based on the UE activated set communication link quality and performs soft switching determination based on the UE soft switching mode. That is, for high quality of UE activated set communication link quality, strict mode for soft switching is selected to save radio link resource while ensuring UE communication quality; for relatively poor quality of UE activated set communication link quality, relaxed mode for soft switching is selected to enable new subzone to add to the UE activated set easily. The soft switching characteristic is utilized fully to ensure the UE communication quality. |
