A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus in which a dedicated motor for driving a head cleaning mechanism is eliminated to realize low cost and space saving features of the apparatus. A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus in which an end section of a tape that is received in a tape cassette (2) has a joining element (8) which is pulled out by a tape pull-out element (40) and wound on a drive reel (20). The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus has a head cleaning mechanism section (90) for cleaning a magnetic head (7), and the head cleaning mechanism section (90) has a head brush section for holding a brush section and a cam mechanism section for changing the position of the head brush section. The cam mechanism section is operated by a tape pull-out element moving member (50) and a loading lever (30). |
