A memory card(1) is provided with a host interface(2), which transmits and receives commands and data to and from a data processor(50), a nonvolatile memory(7) for storing data, a controller(3) for controlling operation of the memory card, and a storing means(32) for storing prescribed control information. The control information includes retry setting information for instructing whether to operate a retry function when an error is generated during operation of writing to the nonvolatile memory. The controller(3) refers to the retry setting information during the data writing operation, and when the retry setting information indicates stop of the retry function, the controller controls the writing operation not to have the retry function operate when the error is generated during data writing operation, and when the retry setting information indicates operation of the retry function, the controller controls the writing operation to have the retry function operate when the error is generated during data writing operation. |
