Disclosed is a method for producing a 5alpha-pregnane derivative represented by the general formula (II) below which is characterized by reacting a pregnane derivative represented by the general formula (I) below with a metal selected from alkali metals and alkaline earth metals in the presence of a proton donor, an amine and/or ammonia. By this method, a 5alpha-pregnane derivative which is useful as a synthetic intermediate for a squalamine can be produced from an easily-available raw material at high yield. (In the formulae, R<1> represents a protecting group of a hydroxyl group; R<2>, R<11> and R<12> independently represent a hydrogen atom or a protecting group of a hydroxyl group; and R<3> and R<4> represent hydrogen atoms or combine together to form a bond. |
