The invention provides an electro-optical device with improved impact resistance, high reliabity, and hard of bringing badly visibility and the like. The electro-optical device includes a protective member for protecting the electro-optical panel, and and a holding member that holds the electro-optical panel. The protective member is composed of a light-transmitting substrate. The protective member has a thick portion where the thickness of the light-transmitting substrate is large, thin portions where the thickness of the light-transmitting substrate is small, the thin portions being provided at the outer circumference of the light-transmitting substrate, and step portions provided between the thick and thin portions. The holding member has fitting portions that are nested into the step portions of the protective member. The light-transmitting substrate and the electro-optical panel are bonded to each other with an adhesive layer. |
