A steering device and a method of manufacturing the steering device. In the steering device, an annular recessed part (73) is formed in the internal surface of the fitting hole (71) of a bracket (7) in which the cylinder tube (53) of a housing storing a steering shaft allowed to move in the lateral direction of a vehicle body according to steering operation and having a metal cylinder tube (53) is inserted. A part of the cylinder tube (53) is bent to the inside of the recessed part (73) starting at the inner peripheral surface toward the outer peripheral surface to form a locking projected part (8) to increase the locking strength of the bracket (7) so that the locking strength of the bracket connected to the cylinder tube can be increased without producing thermal strain in the cylinder tube. Also, parts such as the steering shaft can be installed in the steering device without being obstructed by the bracket. |
