性质：无色至黄色单斜针状结晶。熔点83℃（88℃），沸点206-207℃（1.6kPa），相对密度1.341（20/4℃）。溶于醇和醚，微溶于热水。
制备方法：由2,4-二硝基氯苯经甲氧基化而得。在反应锅中投入熔融的2,4-二硝基氯苯900kg和甲醇1800L，加热至40℃左右，在4h内先快后慢地加入30%的氢氧化钠溶液579kg，温度控制在58-60℃。取料液在酚酞试纸上测试，呈橘红色时为反应终点。经后处理操作即得2,4-二硝基苯甲醚。收率95%。
用途：用作染料中间体，用于生产大红色基RC（2-甲氧基-5-硝基苯胺盐酸盐）。该品也是一种杀虫卵剂，对于蛾类、虱、蝉螂、家具有地毯内虫卵或甲虫等均有效。
